In college we went through a hand full of useful techniques when using the EQ tool in our DAW’s, specifically working to strengthen / boost or weaken / cut certain frequencies that are in the mix. We have been given a task to mix down a track with only the EQ tool, faders and the volume levels, only using these tools you can bring so much more life to a dull and flat sounding recording!
There are different types of EQ’s as well, the most common being: parametric, semi-parametric, graphic, peak and program equalizers.
I am applying the techniques and tips that we have been taught in the production of my music, also the remix that i am currently trying to perfect. Knowing and understanding the EQ in my DAW is a very vital and important step to improving my music production / mix downs, a difference can be heard as well!
The Power of EQ! one of the most important you have at your disposal when mixing down your track clearly demonstrated in you blog post here.
